Cheese Onion Slice

Camelia’s Onion, Bacon & Cheese Slice

Here’s a recipe from a Kitchen Tea that my Matron of Honour arranged for me about 25 years ago.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Self Raising Flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbl butter
  • 1.5 cups grated cheese
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 rashers of bacon, chopped (or a good amount of “diced bacon style pieces”)
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 1 cup sour cream

Method:

Sift flour, salt and pepper. Rub in butter, mix in 1/2 the grated cheese. Add milk and mix to form a soft dough. Spread evenly over base of greased lamington tin. Saute bacon and onion until soft and transparent. Remove pan from heat and stir in sour cream. Spread cream mixture over dough and cover with remaining cheese.

Bake in hot oven (220 degrees C) for 25-30 minutes.
